I visited yesterday with some children who came to Capitol Hill to share some very good news: President Barack Obama’s executive action on immigration has protected their parents from the prospect of immediate deportation! The children also delivered letters to the White House thanking the President for his efforts to keep immigrant families together. Thanks to the President’s courageous action, the sadness and fear expressed by these children and millions of others across the country has been lifted this holiday season. For the first time, they can look forward to Christmas knowing that their parents won’t suddenly be taken away and deported to another nation. Through his order, President Obama has reaffirmed our American values, and our belief that families should be together and that children should not be deprived of the love and support of their parents. However, our work is far from over, and we must work with the affected families to help them. We must preserve this momentous victory in the face of attacks from Republicans who are once again resorting to irresponsible political games in an effort to block the President.
