I voted yes on #HRes567, which establishes the Select Committee on the Events Surrounding the 2012 Terrorist Attack in Benghazi. The select committee is tasked with conducting a full and complete investigation and study of the attack on U.S. facilities in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11, 2012. Since the Benghazi attack, the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform (on which I serve), the Committee on Armed Services, the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence have worked to investigate the attack to determine what did and did not happen that night. Its difficult, however, for four separate committees to properly coordinate an investigation. The new select committee will be committed solely to this effort. After the investigation is complete, the select committee will issue a final report of its findings to the House. Im pleased that my colleague and friend Rep. Trey Gowdy has been named chairman of the select committee, and Im confident hell do an excellent job. The resolution passed 232-186.
