I voted yesterday--and Im gonna stand up and say something that will definitely stir the pot a bit among a lot of people I know.....here goes. When you go to the poles you should vote to RAISE MINIMUM WAGE. Yep, I said it. You should. Before I start hearing the arguments for small businesses and how thats eventually taking money from even bigger pockets--lets really put it into perspective. $6.25 per hour is what minimum wage is. $6.25 per hour! Were looking at a vote to bring it up to $8.50 an hour....wow! Big deal--right?? WRONG. Its fair people. Inflation has happened BIG TIME in the past 7 years--but people are still basically making the same wage as we were several years ago!? This is $250 a week, before taxes, and thats IF a person gets to work 40 hours. So--small businesses who say they cant afford the raise--I say BS. Bringing it down to real life--without all the politics in between--were talking about the difference between a family making rent or not, a family having groceries or not, a student being able to buy books or not, etc. VS a small business owner being able to go on an extra vacation or not, being able to let their kid do two extra-curricular activities instead of just 1, being able to add more to their bottom line or not. We are talking about lower class (poverty level) vs middle (working) class here and the money makes all the difference to one and doesnt mean much for the other. Hey--if you really researched it--I bet that money could actually push some families on government assistance to the point where they dont qualify anymore. Wouldnt we rather people be able to earn a fair wage than not and need assistance?
