I wake up this Saturday morning to people up and at arms about one of my childhood friends either being gay or performing a gay act on tape. I was asked have I seen this tape of this shocking news. I thought, no I have not seen this tape, but Ive seen the guy in it be a great father to his kids, which is more than what I can say to countless of other black men that grew up in poverty in the neighborhoods I lived in. As a humanist that was fortunate enough to travel the world and see so many different cultures and ethnicities I dont think like my friends and peers I grew up with. To hear someone is gay is a 1 second conversation that I usually respond with oh with no negative judgement or shock. I dont care about things like that. I care about people being happy being themselves and if holding this information in was hurting them then Im glad the news is out because no one should be afraid to be themselves. I can name a million things worse than being gay like being an asshole, but if you are hiding something like this, just try to remember the kind of person that looks down upon you is already below you and elephants dont swat flies.
