I walk by the TriBeCa Film Festival headquarters every time I go to housing court (yay). Anyhoo, it reminds me of the first year I volunteered at the Film Fest in NYC. I signed up for a drive-in event, which was basically a huge outdoor screen where ppl screened a film outside. I got to my location and saw a big vert ramp. It was the movie Birth of Big Air, a film about skate legend Mat Hofmann. He was there as well as a bunch of other pro bikers to do a demo before the film. I got to see the film, ironically , as I was nursing a newly torn ligament in my left knee. I was carrying my leg over chairs and climbing the racks to grab free candy for my coworkers. Johnny Knoxville was there as he was a producer on the film. I never felt more proud to be working an event and saluted Mat as he gave his closing comments. He sustained a lot of injuries inventing those tricks , as did Johnny on his show Jackass. My broken knee was now a badge of honor. I hope to join the stunt world upon returning to California. There are prices to pay if you get injured but the reward for doing awesome work is worth it . I always remember the stunts in movies. Especially the car driving. Precision. Park a car doing a 40 mph sliding 180. You know Im gonna learn that.
