I walk into court and announce ready for my preliminary hearing... Deputy DA on the case, so new he just hatched out of his egg, and is still wet, asks to approach the judge. DA: Your honor, the LAPD officer in this case is on Probation for a misdemeanor 415 [disturbing the peace] until 8/15. While we believe it is NOT relevant to the defenses case, we feel obligated to disclose. we will leave out my response to the DA.. i get the case number. I run downstairs and pull the docket sheet. and yes, Taxpayers of Los Angeles County, YOUR LAPD officer was arrested for a FELONY 243[D] [thats a strike offense, a Battery with Great Bodily Injury]. And guess what, YOUR LAPD officer was given a misdemeanor 415 for a crime none of OUR defendants or clients will ever get such a dispo. THe rest of us, if arrested on a 243[d] are more likely than not to get a jail sentence, a felony conviction and a strike offense.... Absolute Power corrupts absolutely. Here we are thinking our prosecutors office is transparent. Thinking that the LAPD has been reformed. We are just bankrolling a corrupt system that only plays to its own advantage, at the expense of the People. I dont know how you all feel,... but i am pretty disgusted.
