I walked into the church where my ministry partner and I were - TopicsExpress

I walked into the church where my ministry partner and I were scheduled for the evening service. Something felt strange, As the service began a word came for the young drummer on the worship team. It was obvious there were some problems. The pastor confided weve been having some.concerns.The lad was his son. The meeting continued and things definitely did not feel right. At the end of the service a pretty young lady and her fiance came forward for prayer, she with tears running down her face. It was confided that the pastor had come on to her and was pressuring her for involvement as he had other young women in the church. What should they do? He was their pastor, their authority. I told them, You are in a spiritually abusive church. Leave and do not return. We were scheduled to return in two weeks for more ministry. We canceled those meetings. Spiritual abuse is hard to handle. It is devastating to the innocent. Those who finally do get out sometime never go back to any church. If you are in a spiritually abusive church, not maybe of the same nature as I have described but abusive nonetheless, leave if the Lord allows. I know when I see an abusive church because I have experienced their devastation. I recommend to you the excellent book The Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse, by Van VonDeren if you are in need of information on the subject and also In Sheeps Clothing by George Simon.
