I walked with AtPeace Makita, the spokesperson of the @DetroitWaterBrigade, along the street she grew up on in #Detroit. This was the first time she visited the neighborhood in over a decade and was shocked to find seven blighted buildings in this once prosperous place. “This was the well-to-do block, everybody had a job or just retired from the plant, like GM, Ford, so everybody had money, everybody kept their yard up… It was one of the few places in the country where a person of color, an African-American could come, make as much money as they could and buy houses and buy property.
