I wan serve, I wan serve. Thank God youre there now.Its only normal to feel optimistically anxious that youre gonna have fun in d NYSC camp... Just like yestaday...the memory is flooding back! Could recall my first day in the camp I was somewhat disoriented, uncertain of what to expect and uncurious. Then with the passage of days it turned fun, funny and funnier. At the end of the three weeks the initial feelings came back.Travelled 4rm ife to oshogbo and to ilorin,finally arrived yikpata camp in kwara state by 2pm, joined d longest line of queues I have ever seen, i joined d queue cos i had no option .. There was a tag or inscription showing different skuls u graduate from,south west unis and polys on a side, niger delta and eastern skul on another side, northerners on d far extreme side..i was looking at a black chick infront of me wth ajayi crowder university id card, she looked calm and well fed, with a cool mien..i was begining to think something else before another thing in me said.. Cmon, yemi mind wat u are here 4..like play like play d queue mv smal bt nt as fast as one would expect, i saw sharon a girl from uniport, whom we had both enta d same bus together 4rm maraba park to yikpata, talking to a soldier..hmn, bottom power i knew she was up to smthing..after d soldier had left,i quickly walked up to her... The following was our conversation: Me: hello whats up nw? Remba dis face? (y wnt she remba wen i had told ha in d bus along wth sm oda guys hw we gonna play along in camp in other to avoid being posted to baruteen and some other dreaded villages called small towns). Sharon: y nt! We came together nw.. Me: haha, u knw u girls nw.. So, what are u discussing wth dat military dude? Sharon: hmn....yellow man! Must u knw? Ok, i told him to help me to mv fast on d queue,am tired. Me: on whose payment? Abi nttin 4 nottin? Sharon: u are nt serious..he dey craze,am nt his type.. E go do am sha.. After 5mins, i saw sharon in d front wth d soldier, i was like, oboy..dis girl is damn hot legged.. As i was looking sternly in her direction,she rolled her eyes telling me and oda 2 girls( with d ajayi crowther girl inclusive) to come, b4 we know it,we were screened, given kit and i was perplexed...stil seeing some of my mates dat came b4 me stil enjoying d killing intensity of the sun, i cldnt bt affirm d power girls posses..after much ado, off i went to my hostel 6, cubicle A.. Got dea, saw d team of 11 heavty men..the fear of God came upon me, igbokwe,steve,yomi and odas... Hee.. Who are those dea? A very deep voice wth a barritone like a commandant of 15 amoured battalion came 4rm a far place.. Alas! D soilder had blown dea normal bigle flute-like tin.. Hey, all new white fowls! migrate to the parade ground now.. I was badly terrified.. Oh! Kini gbo gbo nonsense yi nw, i had nt eaten o.. I quickly wore my white knicker and shirt. Moving to parade wth empty stomach, i got a bottle of coke for myself.. Atleast, this one wld take me till evening.. I told myself! as i was taking the something, i saw some mates already doing parade thing... At ease pre pre shan & many many commands styles..( omo no be small thing o) before some small man o war boys told us to do frog jump (we been no know who be man o war and army den sha) after dat whala.. About two hrs after d struggl for a flat matress... I slept peacefuly.. Wth d word Thank God 4 today.. Now a corper! And The rest was history.. Special write up on my first day of Nysc on dat hill of yikpata... Lateef Eluyemi of Six-12 concepts is Serving in Kwara state batch B. Incase u are posted to kwara, dnt panic. kwara is a very peaceful state I must say, Ilorin is the best place to serve. There are other semi-urban areas like Offa,Omu-aran,Share,Bode Saadu,Bacita,Lafiaji. Please do all you can in camp to avoid being posted to Baruten LGA. Its over 5hrs drive from Ilorin.
