I wanna give my two cents about Mike Brown. Im not impressed by the sensationalism of media (and neither should you, Christians) . Principalities and powers exacerbate and distort many of the issues we see in media. If your heart is bent on evil, whatever you want believe, you can best believe truth is hidden from you, and prone to manipulation. So, Im not bent at blaming Darren Wilson altogether just because Im blk. Im a spirit-filled christian before Im a black man, and God says judge righteously. Looking at the evidences available online, its not implausible to see why the grand jury didnt indict the officer. Legally, the law gives police officers quite a bit of leeway to defend themselves if they ascertain a threat. Elusive and intangible motives such as prejudice cant easily be determined by just looking at facts. I think we would be hard pressed to say officer Wilson didnt do his job according to what authorities the law gives him permission to do, especially if we erase the context of skin tone. The issues at hand speak to something deeper than finding Mike Brown innocent. Neither should we be geared at punishing Darren Wilson in some redemptive way to satisfy justice. If Darren Wilson was indicted, it wouldnt eradicate the clandestine and systemic issues of apparent prejudice or racial bias that pervade our judicial system. Mike Browns and potential Trayvon Martins die everyday, and their lives and stories are never told - never sensationalized- because they happen to die at the hands of another African American (though they are invariably sentenced and prosecuted by a white judge/prosecutor/ mostly white jury). Dont they and the future persons who suffer unfair sentences, or their non-convicted killers, deserve to be allotted justice too? I think we insult God when we choose what justices matter and which others to ignore. Could Darren Wilson have shown more compassion and done his job without killing Mike Brown? Absolutely! I believe thats the essence of the outcry! But does the law and judicial system as it stands require it; NO! To say that this officer and any other who does their job within parameters of the law, when the outcome is undesirable, have necessarily acted unjustly is being presumptuous. Provided Darren withheld the best opportunity to keep Mike Brown alive because he was blk, only God can truly judge that - its a matter of the heart. What we can do (other than rally in the streets and cause a ruckus) is do our part in procuring change through strategic political activism, geared at changing local law enforcement practices and our judicial system. Our voting turnout and political involvement in our communities is subpar! We can do better! Much of what we see in America today is a result of our own political apathy and relegation of the issues to someone else. We deceive ourselves when we complain only when tragedy hits our door. We can change the policies that empower police officers and limit their options in utilizing force and handling suspects. We decide who is appointed police chief in our cities. We may never be able to determine with certainty what motivates the actions of people, but we can certainly limit the provisions that prove lethal in the hands of potentially prejudice and racially biased people. Media outcry tells the story of one dead young man but ignores the blood spill of thousands who die unjust deaths every year. Blk, White, or whatever, justice shouldnt be temperamental or racially divided. All should be entitled to it. God loves all! No injustice goes unnoticed by Him but theres much responsibility on earth Hes relegated to us that we just dont accept.
