I want a holiday on sravana Pournima. Some want a holiday on Varalakshmi Vratham. Some want it on Balipadyami. May be Yama Dwitiya may be Mukkoti Ekadashi. But People get some compulsory public holidays and some optional. I guess govt needs to change this concept. Let people choose which X days they want as their festivals ( all public holidays as optional ). This way the national productivity also will improve. This is important in a country like India where there are hundreds of traditions, regions and customs. What is a festival for one is not for another. Why should offices be closed on which is celebrated by 2.5% of the population ( Just an example )? By letting people choose what they want as a holiday, we improve the number of service hours for people at govt offices and let every one celebrate their traditional festivals.
