I want all of you to know that Sparks Pop Warner is doing everything we can to ensure the safety of our participants every day. With the smoke and air quality being very bad these past few weeks, we are taking extra steps every day to see if it is safe to practice. We are following the guidelines that Washoe Country School district follows for their high school athletic programs. Also the health department and the city rules for activity when the air quality is bad. We have someone come out to the field everyday and test the air quality at the field. You can get different readings all over town and the ones on the air quality web sites may not reflect what we have at Golden Eagle. They could be worse or better than what we have at Golden Eagle. If we are practicing we monitor it while we are there and if it gets to an unhealthy level we will stop all practices and send everyone home. Pop Warner was built on a safe environment for our children to play football and cheer in. We as a board in Sparks are doing everything we can to keep that going. We will not let any team practice outdoors in air quality levels that are unsafe. We try and wait until the last possible minute to cancel practices. We do this because we have canceled them early in the day and then it clears up. We ask for some patience with us on this. It is not the coaches that are waiting to let you know practice has been canceled. They are waiting to hear from us. I ask you to plan on practicing every night until you are notified we canceled it. It is hard enough on the coaches when they have to let everyone know practice was canceled, let alone let you know that practice in on. Some have made other plans thinking practice would be canceled and that makes it tough on your coaches. We anticipate the air quality getting better, but we are at the mercy of mother nature. If we are having a practice and you dont feel it is safe for your child, that is OK. Let your coach know why and it will be an excused absence. If you have any concerns about practice I ask that you bring them to the president or the vice presidents. Your coaches are just following what we have decided.
