I want like to bring to my friends attention that I will be - TopicsExpress

I want like to bring to my friends attention that I will be conducting a joint workshop with my gungfu brothers (sifu Keith Chan & sifu Jason dunnings) next week down London, 6th April. This workshop is really about sharing and to get people to see the beauty & effectiveness of wing chun. I dont know whether its due to the language barrier of the first generations of wing chun sifus that brought this system to the west, or simply the comprehension of the practitioners, but there seems to be many misconceptions in the wing chun world. For example, many say that chisau is only useful for chisauing against another wing chun practitioner. I find this suggestion incredulous! If chisau have no practical applications outside of chisau, why do it at all? If other disciplines suggested that their core training had no purpose outside of training, they would be laughed at. Imagine if a BJJ practitioner said all the rolling they did had no practical applications, or that it had no use outside of rolling in the ring? Another major misconception is that we dont need to spar in wing chun; doing happy drills is enough. Well, chisau is already the beginning of sparring! Of course, many dont recognise this because the concept of sparring in Chinese martial arts is different to the western mindset. Our purpose in sparring isnt to inflict injury against our training partners, its simply a way to gauge how much we can use and to help each other identify our openings so that we can work on closing them. In this workshop, I will show you how to spar and to identify the wing chun hands and recognise the principles that we are using. I openly welcome all wing chun nuts to this workshop. I will guarantee it will be lots of fun. The bulk of the workshop will not be me talking, driving people to sleep, lol. It will be lots of hands on teaching and exchanging hands with people. The best news is, its only £30 for half a days of fun and learning. Those who knows me know Im not all about money. I want to bring the standard of wing chun higher all around the world. I want people to be able to say they practice wing chun, without shame! For those of you who are genuinely struggling in life and cant come up with the £30, I will extend my hand of friendship to you and pay from my own pocket. The most important thing is that you are a wing chun nut, and that you dont miss out on the fun!
