I want to alert everyone my computer got this really nasty virus Cryptolocker yesterday from an email from a co-worker who has an Apple computer - his emails disappeared and it sent an email to everyone in his email contacts with the virus - he did not have any other problems. I use Windows saw the email on my laptop thought it looked suspicious and did not open it - it did however get opened on my desktop - the attachment was not opened just the email part of the message - a ransom note comes up on your screen demanding $300 stating that all of your data is now encrypted and you will only be given the key if you send them money. I had a computer tech at my house today for 6 hours getting rid of the virus and also discovered that yes it did encrypt any pdf files on my computer, therefore all of my documents, and excel documents and it also does powerpoints too - it also encrypted all documents on an external server k drive I have and also my dropbox account. The encrypted files are all not retrievable at all. So the solution is to restore a back-up, dropbox I discovered today does allow you to overwrite a file with a previous version of the file - this will take us about 5 hours to do. Anyhow it is a big headache read the link below to understand better. The emails apparently often come in as a government notice, a delivery notice - mine said that the person sending to me had an important google doc for me. blog.kaspersky/cryptolocker-is-bad-news/
