I want to clear something up here that some of you seem to be struggling with. There are a lot of stories in the news right now that say ADHD is a bullshit disease and things like that. This is irresponsible, sensationalist reporting. Many of the mental illnesses that get diagnosed today are not actually diseases. Many of them, including something I am quite familiar with - Bipolar - are merely a constellation of symptoms that roughly fit the labeled mold. Until very recently (last couple of years) the ability to scan the brain and body chemistry to be able to actually, tangibly detect mental illness, was far off on the distant scientific horizon. Now we expect to see it very soon. But the point is, if you see these articles, realize that any psychological or psychiatric professional worth his salt already knows this, and it is in no way scientific news. Psychiatrics are still more of an art than a science, due to limitations in our science and technology. That should not invalidate any mental illness without direct, clear, physical markers.
