I want to commend Governor Pat Quinn for signing into law the gay marriage act that allows them to be married. I personally dont agree with the life style, but I have enough sense to realize that anyone who lives in this country working and contributing as I do to taxes, pensions, insurance, and medical rights should have them also. I too was a screaming maniac about alternative lifestyles, and condemned them just like many others. Then the unthinkable happened. My son told me he was gay. What was I supposed to do then. Ignore the love and care Ive had for him all my life? I couldnt do that. Do I wish things could have been different. Sure, but Im not sure that what I once believed is true about choice, and natural causes for these preferences may exist that Im not wise enough to understand. So I must curb my inclinations, and remember, that these people are loving caring human beings too. They have not forced me into their life styles and havent even blasted me for my own choices. People say what I believe is normal, and what alternative life style people believe is abnormal. Whos to really say that this is true? Biblical teachings aside, it is known that there are variations in nature that man may never be able to explain. We dont know really why certain conditions exist, and choice in my opinion probably has very little or anything to do with the conditions they are compelled to live with. I realize there are people who will disagree with me on this, but I still say good for the Governor, and for legislators in this state for ending another form of discrimination against law abiding citizens who just happen to think and feel differently about what we consider to be normal. None of us are perfect, and we need to remember, there will always be hate mongers among us. Its time we give equal fairness and treatment to everyone who has earned and deserves it. Feel free to disagree, but I just wanted to share my thoughts... Mike
