I want to debunk this lie right now! Some of my ancestors are Native and all Natives did not participate in the African Slave Trade. My Virginia Ancestors were mixed raced Native/Free Black from as the early 1700s. Thomas Jefferson told the Mattaponi if they did not stop marrying blacks, he would declare them Negro. To say that all Natives held slaves is a lie that Europeans tell you to divide and conquer. You must realize that Native children were indoctrinated by Europeans early on, and assimilated as, Civilized They were the ones who were sent back as leaders in the Native Community. Most Tribes wanted nothing to do with owning land or owning another human being. The Cherokee were one of the so-called Civilized Tribes who participated in the Slave Trade. The Iroquois (6 nations), were not slave holding tribes, neither were the Seminole. It is incorrect to say that all Natives participated in the Slave Trade. Just as it is incorrect to say that all blacks who fought in the Civil War were Buffalo Soldiers. That was another tactic to divide and conquer.
