I want to dedicate this Status to the 1920-1930 Al Bowlley, 1898 -1941. Al Bowlley was born in Mozambique in 1898, but later in his life he became a very popular singer in Britain and America, especially during the crucial years of the depression and WWl & WWII. His name became associated with being the main singer with the famous composer Ray Nobel and his orchestra. However it is said that he is the first to introduce the style of crooning as a singing style. Al Bowlley introduced many popular songs which are still remembered and sung today such as Blue Moon, The Very Thought of You, and many others. At the start of WWll Bowlley was in England, and all throughout the war, even while the bombs were dropping on England, he continued singing to British audiences. It is said he did so in order to help lift the moral of the British people during the war. On April 17, 1941 Bowlley had finished a concert in the Rex Cinema at High Wycombe. On that evening he was invited to stay in High Wycombe, especially since London had been experiencing many bombings during the war. But Bowlley decided to take the train and return to his apartment in London. On that fatal night a mine was launched from a parachute and landed in front of Bowlings apartment house. Many were killed by the blast including Al Bowlley. Al Bowlley was later laid to rest in a mass grave in Westminster cemetery. His full name however, Albert Alex Bowlley appears on the Tombstone.
