I want to discuss over several posts the why’s and how’s of running a Facebook page. The idea is to get you into the correct mindset for running an online business. I hope you will leave me a comment when you have finished reading, click like, and maybe even share this post with your friends. Defining your goals, and giving yourself something to focus on. In the years gone by I’ve seen a lot of businesses that have been trying to engage with some sort of digital media, ranging from new websites to interactive DVDs. I’d see vans with email addresses, and web addresses branded onto the vans of handymen and builders and all other kinds of business. Today’s trend is social media, with the biggest and most popular being Facebook. It’s all about having a Facebook page for your business. People will keep up to date with anything that is new and popular in an attempt to keep their business fresh and up to date. You have to move with the times right? I have a lot of people who ask me the same reoccurring question – “but how do I make my Facebook page make me money?”, my response is usually along the lines of “well, how did you expect it to make you money?”, to which they reply “I don’t know. I thought that just by having a Facebook page, I would increase my income.”. If I asked you, the reader & page owner, how you thought Facebook was going to help your business make money, what would you say? Would your response be similar to the above? Would it include phrases like “brand awareness” or “global reach”? I imagine this is the case for at least some of my readers, if not most. To make Facebook work for you, you first need to have a clear goal in mind. Facebook is nothing more than a way of communicating to people who are willing to listen – it’s about how you choose to communicate that’s important. So how do you define your goals? Just keep it simple! If you want to sell more products, then that’s your goal – “Sell Products”, if you want high attendance at an event, then that’s your goal – “Encourage Visits to Event”. Its super easy when you just sit down and think about it. Once you have figured out your goals, you need to be able to measure them. Anything you can apply a number to in some form is a way of measuring. If you can measure something you can manage it. Ways to measure can include (but not limited to), sales using promotional code, or via tracked link, business check ins, event attendance, etc etc. As soon as you can measure, you can see if you are being a success. You can see if you are making more money than you are investing. By declaring your goals, you instantly give yourself a direction and something to focus on. I’m going to continue discussing this subject, and what the next steps are in upcoming posts. Please LIKE this post and page The Page Owners Manual
