I want to live in a peaceful society, but not a pacifist one. A peaceful society is one where we have harmonious relationships with our communities, where it is basically safe for people to walk the streets day or night, where people watch our for each other and actually care. A pacifist society, by contrast, is one where tryanny exists and continues in our name while we block their clubs with our faces. Pacifism does not usually lead to a society of peace, but to a society that quickly gets taken over by tyrants. I want to live in a society where people are willing and not afraid to fight if absolutely necessary as a last resort to protect each other from predators, but a society where the actual need to fight rarely if ever exists. I have no desire to submit to oppression to show the difference between oppressor and oppressed....none. I have a desire for oppression not to exist so that we can get on peacefully restoring the earth and building a society of abundance. I want to live in a society where I will probably never have to do battle with anyone, but where I would almost certainly be protected by my community if I were the one being attacked.
