I want to make a few comments about how were working toward a functional Minoan spiritual practice. A few people have asked how I feel about UPG so, for those who are unfamiliar with this subject, Ill do a quick summary. Gnosis is the Greek word for knowledge. In a spiritual context it means an inner understanding of the divine, and in this context it is used in the Judeo-Christian world as well as in Pagan and other traditions. Essentially, when youre in meditation or ritual or some other mindful state, you might feel the gods are communicating with you, helping you understand something about them, or maybe about how they would like you to do the ritual or set up the altar or something like that. When its just one persons inner knowing, its often labeled Unverified Personal Gnosis (UPG) and many people view this is a derogatory term. Essentially, were all individuals and anything we know is filtered through our psyches and might be skewed because of that. But I think it has value. For anyones private spiritual practice, UPG is perfectly valid - you have to go with your own heart. Now were working with Minoan spirituality, which is not really a reconstructionist tradition though were doing our best to use what archaeological information we do have as a sort of framework. I personally value UPG and for building up the Minoan liturgy Id like to work with what is essentially UPG on steroids - its called corroborated gnosis. Essentially, we all share what we feel/sense/intuit and see where our gut feelings and heart sense overlap and reinforce each other. If a bunch of people intuit the same thing, or very similar things, then we can be pretty sure were on the right track, even if we dont have any Minoan sacred texts to back us up. So please feel free to share not just information about archaeological finds and ancient texts, but also your own thoughts and impressions, dreams and visions. Whatever we do in terms of creating a Minoan spiritual practice needs to be something that feels right to us in the current world, and I think the best way to achieve that goal is to give everyone a safe place to share their own gnosis and use it as a sort of sacred building block. Does that make sense?
