I want to make something clear about a post I made yesterday about - TopicsExpress

I want to make something clear about a post I made yesterday about questioning the police. Those of you who know me understand I am the biggest proponent of public safety that you will find. Not only do I respect fire, police and EMS but being the son, nephew, grandson, grand nephew and great grandson of firefighters and police officers, I consider them family. Now, with that being said, I took a lot of flak for questioning the actions of Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson. That in itself is fine and justified that people would question me and my motives. Every day police officers and firefighters put themselves in harms way on the streets of this country. They encounter situations that the average person would have no part of. Often their interactions are with people that intend to cause harm to themselves, others and the first responders themselves. There are times when force is necessary to mitigate the situation and sometimes deadly force is required. It is not an easy decision to make on the part of a police officer to take a life and it is something that stays with them for the rest of their lives. However, on the unfortunate flip side, there are police officers, firefighters, EMS workers and members of every other possible vocation that are less than honorable people. It is a sad and very real fact that there are those who are sworn to protect and serve have very little respect for those they are there to serve. Fortunately, it is a very minute percentage and more often than not those people get weeded out of the ranks quickly. We have a growing problem in this country that has been prevalent for decades but seems to be getting worse and that is a growing distrust among people. Due to some personal experiences, I also have fallen into the category of being wary of what peoples true intentions are and that leaves a bitter taste in my mouth that I have become that way. I think that the root of the problem lies in the fact we are more inclined to knee jerk reactions to events rather than taking the time to objectively look at situations to find out what went wrong and more importantly, how to fix them. We listen to reply and react rather than open a discussion to work and resolve our problems as a family, team, community, profession and a country. Blame becomes more a focal point than resolution. I dont claim to have the answers but I do have ideas. I respond to posts daily in hopes of opening a civil and productive conversation to try and find resolutions but all too often it ends up in arguments, blaming, personal attacks and hard feelings. The problems in this country are not the fault of Obama, Republicans, Democrats, liberals or conservatives. The problems are a result of individuals with certain agendas that refuse to work with people who think differently. It is a problem of material objects and wealth taking precedence over family, friendship and values. I doubt I will see a unified nation in my lifetimes and I certainly dont expect the nations problems to be solved on Facebook. However, Facebook can play a positive role as it is a platform for people to communicate. It is a place to meet new and interesting people which I have done many times. Right here is a place to communicate with people from all over the country and the world and a chance to learn different things for free. Take advantage of it. TALK and learn. Talk and teach. Talk and strengthen our country. Talk and make friends who will be around for the rest of your life. Have a great day. Peace.
