I want to post the wonderful reunion I had with Rob Schwartz at the Nautilus Diner on May 29, 2014. May I say I was not disappointed in the least. Rob was a neighbor of mine in Bar Harbour and yet I did not know it. You see, he was with the Matzoh persuasion and I was a solid Pizza connection. So, the MatzohPizza tradition is exposed and we didnt even realize it as we were growing up although my Dad often spoke of it We spoke for hours about the most amazing things. Did anyone know that AEROSMITH song writer and band member lived only 6 houses down the block from me on Kings Walk? Rob also enlightened me that he has a very personal connection with Alec Baldwin, the actor. Alec was once very serious with Robs wifes sister and to this day remains a family friend! Alec continued on to marry Kim Basinger as we all know. Rob is a very devoted family man. Rob often spoke of his mother, his daughter, Hillary, and his beautiful wife. Stories of Robs growing up were constantly being exposed with a misty eye. The most amusing anecdote I enjoyed was a phone call Rob received from a friend. His friend asked for Bob to which his mother replied, There is no one here by that name. It was then that Rob decided he is to be only called by Rob. I take this story particularly personal because it does relate to an experience of my own. While working in Florida, right after graduating college, I noticed my coworker would only call me Louis. So, one day I asked why he never abbreviated my name or altered it in any way. Being a deep southerner since birth, his response was very direct and personal. It is the wish of your Momma to be called Louis and it is not my place to call you anything else! Very heartwarming and very true was Robs devotion to his Mom. Rob and I continued on down the block of my neighborhood of whom I knew very little. You see, they were almost entirely Matzoh. Pat Heilmann lived catercorner to me on the water and when Rob moved in 1954 to the hood he told me that there were no bulkheads. The canal was there but no bulkheads. I moved to Bar Harbour in 1960 from Floral Park to a derelict house and such was my growing up years. We laughed and secretly cried to each other. I can not describe the occasion with mere words. As all of our participating classmates know, much is lost in the translation and, may I add, Rob would not hear of me paying a single dime. Rob, it is a good, warm feeling to be family with you and the Matzoh persuasion. May the Schwartz be with you.
