I want to put this out there and get some ideas on how everyone - TopicsExpress

I want to put this out there and get some ideas on how everyone feels about tipping those in the service industry. Several servers I know have said that there are some people that do not tip at all, others, maybe 5%. I am just curious on the general sentiment on this subject, if most people tip from 18 – 20% typically, why some do not tip at all (excluding bad service or other specific reasons), if some do not feel the need to tip at all, etc. And, if using a Groupons, or other discounts, do you tip on the original amount (like the issuer of the discount recommends) or on the discounted price? I have heard lots of stories about this, and have witnessed people leaving a table with no tip at all. Their minimum wage is about 50% less than the regular minimum wage, because of tips, which doesn’t help if they have a slow day or night. Obviously, I am advocating for servers, as I know several people in the industry. Please know that I’m not looking for an argument…just very curious. Thank you all for your thoughts!
