I want to recall some memories of Cotton Rec. Coming up Towcester Rd there were the tennis courts on the rec corner.Then there was the nursery school and the pavillion. Nursery side of the pavillion was just a covered seating area and the other side housed an ice cream/sweet kiosk and the bowls club. then further up and nearer the main road were the swings. On the corner of Towcester Rd/Queen Eleanor Rd was a black wooden hut. This was the Old Mens Hut where retired gentlemen used to gather to put the world to rights. Periodically USAF convoys would stop by the swings for the personnel to relieve themselves at the public toilets. This would mean a treat for us kids as strips of chewing gum were freely handed around. Lastly I like to menntion two trees (ash I think) that stood in the park area. One was about quarter of the way along Delapre Cres Rd and the other near Pleydell Rd about halfway between Delapre Cres Rd and Forest Rd. Both long gone.
