I want to share a short story with you. A close friend who has FM - TopicsExpress

I want to share a short story with you. A close friend who has FM wrote to me saying that she was feeling poorly and sensed that something else was going on in her body besides FM. Her symptoms included increased anxiety, extreme fatigue, increased pain, muscle weakness, and stiff joints. I wrote her with recommendations of what her doctor should be testing her for. All of her tests came back normal, including her thyroid. Her symptoms sounded all to familiar and told her to ask her doctor to test her for Hashimotos (autoimmune hypothyroidism). Sure enough she tested positive, and is now being treated for it. This just goes to show that even though your thyroid tests can be in the normal range you can still have Hashimotos. When your thyroid isnt functioning normally, which is often the case with FM patients, you will feel absolutely horrible. The symptoms mimic those of FM. I have Hashis and am being treated with Armour Thyroid - an all natural dessicated porcine thyroid which contains both T3 and T4, unlike Synthroid/Levothyroxine, and is the preferred thyroid hormone for people with Hashis. I urge all of you to request this very simple blood test even if your thyroid levels are in the normal range. Hashimotos can cause your levels to go from hypo to hyper, hence the usual blood tests can be unreliable. Also, if youre having difficulty swallowing or hoarseness in your voice, this could be a sign of thyroid nodules. Its always a good idea to have an ultrasound of your thyroid if youve tested positive for thyroid illness. Healing hugs ~ Beth
