I want to share my experience today at the airport while volunteering for the USO....I was escorting 3 recruits to their gate and before we got anywhere near their gate we all heard a child shreeking screaming yelling crying...we proceeded to walk to the gate and I looked up and there in the distance was a young girl and her 3 maybe 4 yr old child. Both were crying and sitting all alone, lots of screaming and yelling. I wished the recruits I escorted the best and decided to approach this young Mom. As I got closer, the little boy was out of control jumping, hitting, yelling, crying, he rears back and slams his head into Moms lip and there is blood like crazy. The passengers in the gate area were all talking about this Mom and her Son. I asked if she was ok and tried talking to to the little boy. They were both so upset and then it got ugly. I went and got ice for the Mom for her bloody lip and tried again talking to the boy. Dakota (the young child) was telling me to shut up and calling me stupid and screaming top of his lungs. Mom reached over and twisted his ear and hit him, which broke my heart. I said it is not his fault he is upset and doesnt want to talk, she replies to me I am stuck with this lil bastard for the next 14 hours and now my lip is bleeding and swelling. I asked her if there was someone I could call for her or if I could go get a treat for her Son. She said no but if I could knock him out for her she would be glad. I stayed there a little longer to make sure the bleeding stopped and then proceeded to go talk to the gate agent to tell them my concerns. I was so broken hearted to walk away and leave them as they were both emotional wrecks. I will lay my head down tonight hoping they are both safe and that little Dakota is given love and a chance. They are both still on my mind
