I want to share some information about our rescue that it seems - TopicsExpress

I want to share some information about our rescue that it seems many are unaware of. We are literally 3-4 people that volunteer our time to save these dogs. Our only paycheck is saving a life and watching them go home with loving families one day. For people like us, thats enough. There is no huge shelter building, we are funded by kind private donors not taxpayers, we dont have a paid staff of employees that need work to do and we dont have a giant pile of cash were sitting on. During the past week, there have been more demanding people than I can even count. People expect instant replies to their emails, and we do the best we can, but I personally receive at least 200 emails a day. Even if I sat down and answered every single one, I would receive replies before I could finish answering them all. We cant drop everything were doing at a moments notice to drive two hours, pick a dog up and bring it to a vet because their foster family doesnt want to take them. We are happy to pay for the vet visit, but our days (for me weeks) are often already planned out in advance. We are people too, with families and lives of our own to manage. It seems that we can never do enough for people and I honestly have just grown really tired of those who think we have endless time, unlimited resources and a corporate headquarters full of paid staff. I WISH this were the case, but our reality is very far from that. I wish I could share what its like to do what we do everyday, but there is really no way to adequately explain it. I am sitting here with a splitting headache from answering emails and dealing with difficult people that have stressed me to my limits today. Rescue is emotionally and physically exhausting, we are constantly cancelling our personal plans to do adoption events, hold meet and greets with adopters or go pickup dogs from shelters so they arent euthanized. I cant remember the last time I had an actual vacation when I was bombarded with dying dogs and other issues. We dont need people to tell us how awesome we are or thank us, all we ask for is the same level of respect and understanding that you all would want to be treated with if you were in our shoes. Is that too much to ask for? ~Jamie
