I want to take a moment to pay tribute to a man whose life is - TopicsExpress

I want to take a moment to pay tribute to a man whose life is classically inspirational. Im not even sure of exactly how we met, but it really didnt matter. From the time we did, I knew he was special, and that he would be my biggest challenge as well as my greatest cheerleader. Many of us hoped for and strived to be more special-exceptional- than the previous ones. We were all his children. And what made him a great teacher was that he truly cared about his students. He gave them time--lots of it and listened to them with care. Sometimes hed show through his parental discipline--having us run the stairs in the cafetorium or his singular pleasure of hurling a blackboard eraser at a radically knuckleheaded actor to test our focus or inattentiveness, the crime of crimes. Our Merel, who could be equally charming and cantankerous, managed to find time to talk to us about life- his and ours- and what it means to be flawed and imperfect- human. Humans that were capable of wonderful things. Humans that could breathe life and create, bring joy to others. Humans who werent afraid to be hurt, to cry to forgive and to love. Merels life was not faint. His memory will always be with us; his legacy will continue through us, his children. Each day, as I work with young people, I will carry on his work. I will miss my teacher, my mentor and friend dearly, but I am so grateful for having known him. May peace be yours.
