I want to tell you about Kate Granger, an inspirational & courageous young woman I met in Manchester at the NHS Innovation Expo. Kate is an Elderly Medicine Registrar at St University Hospital in Leeds. Kate also has a terminal diagnosis of cancer. Not only has she raised over £100k for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre but is also on a personal mission to make a positive impact upon the way we communicate as healthcare professionals with patients. Her #Hellomynameis campaign has received worldwide support, highlighting the importance of introducing yourself to patients & their carers in a personal and compassionate manner. Kate has written a must-read book, The Other Side & hopes that by reading it, healthcare professionals will be better able understand exactly what being the patient is really like and how their behaviours, no matter how small can impact massively on the people they look after.
