I want to thank Sandy Baker: she did for me what no other could. - TopicsExpress

I want to thank Sandy Baker: she did for me what no other could. I have very low blood pressure; 85/58/56, and am super sensitive to the heat. I got heat stroke when I ran a marathon in the 90s and have been sensitve ever since. The last few years there have been times when I was under physical stress that I thought I was having a heart attack and couldnt breathe. When I saw my GP he said I had asthma and sent me to a respirologist who said I didnt have asthma (but prescribed me ventalin); that I was ONE OF THOSE TYPES having a panick attack. I one time ended up in the hospital, taken by ambulance. They said take ativan when I feel stressed as I was having a panick attack. So now I have Ventalin and Ativan neither of which seemed to work. When I visited my son in Tiawan I had difficulty breathing and went to the Dr who sent me to a specialist. They did an X-ray and catscan and then several tests, and the results were that my lungs were in excellent shape. He suggested that I see a cardiologist when I got home. I did and ended up having an echo heart test. I couldnt get my heart beat passed 145 and had to stop because I couldnt run faster because of my neck. At the Vernon Dressage show I sarted having heat stroke; freezing and shaking. I was really afraid. Then Sandy Baker (a cardiologist) came to ride at the farm and I casually asked her if she heard of anyone with my symtoms and did she know what I could do about it. She stopped the horse, looked at me and said: Do you have low blood pressure? (Yes) What is the common denominator when you cant breathe? (its HOT) Do you drink lots of water when its hot? (YES) Do you use salt on your food? (NO) When people have low blood pressure and it is hot and you are exerting yourself, your blood pressure can drop further. Your body cannot cool itself and you overheat (heat stroke) When you drink water you are actually becoming dehydrated. SOLUTION: electrolytes - SALT I hate gatoraid because of the sugar and she said EAT A PICKLE or olives. WAS it really that simple?????!!!!!!!! I went to the Kamloops Dressage show; it was relativly warm and I was exerting myself. I had brought a jar of dills and during the weekend consumed most of the jar over 3 days. I had no problem. We came to Palm Springs and the first 2 weeks it was over 100 degrees and I was armed with PICKLES: Larry and I hiked and biked and golfed in 100 degree weather and I had NO issues breathing. My sister Elizabeth has LOW blood pressure too and biking she had a problem and started getting heat stroke. Its over 100 degrees and she is getting goose bumps. We stopped and rested and then made it home. She started with the pickles and didnt have a problem the rest of her stay. Low blood pressure is genetic in our family. Karen came to visit for 2 weeks and we were doing a strenuous hike (the Painted Canyon also know as the ladders; and she was feeling quite shakey. I had packed pickles and she sat and ate the pickle and had some water. We were only 1/4 of the way up the climb to the top. After the pickle, water and rest; Kar took off and she and Larry led the rest of the way. There were several women in Palm Springs in our complex who were having symptoms that I had suffered; all had LOW BLOOD PRESSURE! 2 were seeing cardiologists without results! 4 of the women started to eat PICKLES before they worked out; (either in the gym, hiking, biking, tennis etc) They all felt it made a difference and suffered NO symptoms. This is why I wrote this because if it helps somone then it is worth doing and if you know someone who has low blood pressure and has suffered these symptoms tell them to try pickles! So a huge thankyou Sandy from all the ladies who have taken the PICKLE solution and the ativan and ventalin puffers are now in the garbage!
