I want to thank everyone for checking on me and sending very positive messages of support and prayers about the medical journey I am on. I have not updated anyone lately because I did not want to share the information about what was going on until I really knew all of the details. Had I sent this last week, it would have been much different because I was told that I had been diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer, a very rare cancer that accounts for less than 1% of all cancer cases. It is a very slow-growing cancer and is non-aggressive. I was devastated. Today I met with an oncologist at Sammons Cancer Center at Baylor and he told me “if there is anything such as a good cancer, which there is not, what you have is it”. After Wanda, Cecile, (my wonderful cousins) and I met with him for a long time, I feel much better. The options are surgery, chemotherapy, a shot once a month that will stop the growth of the tumors, or to do nothing at all. There were four small tumors in all and this type of cancer is so slow growing and so non-agressive that they may only have to be monitored regularly. As many of you know I have already had 22 surgeries during my life and the testing has shown that I have a genetic connection between all of the kidney stone surgeries, caused by the calcium disease I was born with, the lipoma tumors and this. The testing also showed that these tumors, which grow so slow, have not been growing years but possibly for decades from what they learned from the test results from the biopsies and it has taken this long to cause problems. There will be a couple of more tests before a decision is made on what to do. I feel so much better now and I know I didn’t accomplish this by myself. It has taken a loving God and the prayers and caring of all of you and my family. It just goes to show that you get a lot of love and caring from people in Kemp and there truly is power in prayer.
