I want to thank everyone for sharing my post about Gradys accident. While I felt an overwhelming need to tell the story in hopes it would prevent similar accidents from happing to others, I really wasnt expecting it to be shared by as many and as quickly as it has been. As of this evening it has been shared 45,000 times. The last two days I have received roughly two hundred friend requests from strangers. Ive thought it was a bit odd for people to send me a friend request as a complete stranger. Tonight I discovered an other inbox in my private pms. I found I had a couple hundred private messages I didnt know about. Ive been reading them for the past several hours. I havent even put a dent in them. 75% of the messages are from strangers (most of those friend requests), who have either been in a severe lawn mower accident themselves (as a child) or have a child who has been in one. Ive been able to keep my emotions in check over the last several days now. But reading these lengthy stories brought me to tears again. So many are identical to what happened to Grady. And there are a small handful that were not nearly as fortunate as him. I cant believe how many children are seriously maimed for life, and many times killed, from lawnmower accidents. Ive only read a small handful so far. As I want to reply and thank each person who sends me a message. Im grateful that most have offered their continued prayers for us. We are fortunate to be surrounded by amazing family, friends and even strangers who have offered us support and encouragement. Were blessed to live in a great community. There are a lot of things that suck about social media. But Ive found it to be a great tool in these difficult times. Thanks again to everyone who has been willing to share our story and hopefully prevent it from happening to another child.
