I want to thank everyone for their kind words and thoughts. I still cant believe she is gone, just a few days ago she was playing, cuddling with me on the couch and just being Sophie. For those of you who do not now her story, let me take a few minutes here and share it with you. Sophie and Simon are brother and sister, they are Maine Coon cats that had a very rough beginning, their first owner physically abused them and her son could not take their screams anymore and set them free, they wondered the neighborhood for several weeks until they were caught by some kind people and brought to Small Miracles Cat and Dog Rescue. When I saw what horrible shape they both were in I know I had to take them home with me and get them better. The vet who worked there at that time told me they wouldnt make it and they need to be out down, well, that made me more determined to get them better and prove her wrong. I will never forget when I let them out of my carrier, Simon run and hid under my couch and Sophie pranced around like she own the place, and even then she had an air about her. It took several months to put the weight on them, and to get them healthy, lots of trips to my vet, with special food and medication but it was all worth every penny. I entered Sophie into a CFA Cat Show and she did okay, she wasnt crazy about some of the judges but, I dont blame her, I will never forget what Barbara Summer said, oh you are awful pretty, but awful hissy, I just had to laugh. Sophie enjoyed ruling the household, she had a very special place on my kitchen counter and she enjoyed looking out the kitchen window, sitting in the sink and letting the dogs know how close they could get to her, even Penny and Barron had respect for her, she would walk into my den and Barron would get up and let her lay down on his dog bed, she would walk up to Penny and lick her face. She was always by my side, if I was watching tv and one of my other cats was on the couch with me she would jump up and take over, what can I say she was a tortoiseshell and yes she had attitude. She also had a very sweet, gentle side, she would spend time everyday, licking my other cats faces, just cleaning them up, and snuggling up against them, she was mom, if a disagreement broke out, she would run over and settle it. She was the boss. When I came home last night with an empty carrier, both the dogs looked confused as they sniffed it and kept looking up at me as to say where is she. The cats were all quiet and Simon walked over to the carrier and climbed inside and slept in it all night, he was probably wondering where his sister was. Before I placed her into the carrier, I really think Simon knew his sister wasnt coming back, he snuggled and sniffed her and gave her a few kisses. I really believe that animals have a deep connection to each other and they know when the end is near. I still cant believe she is gone, the counter top is empty, her sweet meow is silent along with my lap being empty, she was the one always on my lap as I typed on my computer. I dont know why she got so sick, so quickly, so young to have two mass in her tummy, she just had her yearly checkup a few months ago and everything was fine, including her blood work, yet, she was eating and acting like nothing was wrong. I suppose God called her back home to help him to keep some kitties and pups in line, she was very good at that job. I am sure she is proud to do the job and will do it so well. And I suppose he needed to add some more beauty in Heaven. I was so blessed to have her, to be given the chance in giving her a good home and tons of love and care. I will miss her, but, I know one day we will be reunited again. Be a good girl Miss Sophie, mind your manners. I know somehow your spirit will still be here with us. Until we meet again my sweet Princess.
