I want to write a message of thanks today. I really do. It would be accurate and heartfelt. I would have a long list of items to be thankful for -- like most of us. But I have to also acknowledge that my heart is heavy, too -- as it often is when I allow what happens in the world enter my being. I admit, I can only do so much of that. When I do, Michael Brown becomes my son. A woman gang raped on a bus in India becomes my daughter. The veil of separation between us falls away, and we are one. And its unbearable, as, Im sure, it should be. So, today, Im going to be thankful for my capacity to feel. For my willingness to see. For my impotence in the face of it all, and how it has me searching for a more powerful, more effective, expression in the world. For the spiritual lessons underneath it all, waiting to be acknowledged. For the dying rage of a false superiority, and the new life that waits underneath it. For those whose death cries out for meaning and action. For those whose life will make a difference. And for my small pocket of abundance, where my heart will rest and find solace today.
