I want to write an open letter to all of my friends who have jumped on the Cop Hate train. Stop, you are perpetuating the problem. Not all cops are assholes, racists, dirty, or out to get you. They just arent. For the most part cops are parents, friends, family members. They face the same fears that you and I do, their spouses leave them, their children get sick, life happens to them too. They bleed red just like the rest of us. Yes, they may make your life less convenient if you are speeding down the highway, or making illegal left hand turns in school zones. They also protect us. When our children go missing in the middle of the night, it is the police who work tirelessly to retrieve them. When our lives are turned upside down by an abusive spouse, or a guy with a gun it is police officers that are at our doors helping us out. I, for one, have not always been the police biggest fan- when I was in high school and I got that smoking ticket, I was mad; when I was speeding home in the middle of the night, I certainly didnt want that ticket; when I made that stupid illegal left hand turn into the school parking lot, I wanted anything other than to be pulled over!! Did I deserve everyone of those tickets? Yup!! When my mom was abusing me and the cops took me to friends, safe havens, offered to help in anyway possible- the police were there to help. At the end of the day- the majority of these men and women are there to help, so stop cheering for dead cops and realize that they are people just like you and me, they shouldnt be petrified that they will be shot, ambushed or attacked when they go to work.
