I wanted to chat about our selection for best knife under $175 for bushcrafting video. We have been catching a lot of flack for picking a stainless knife. But what most naysayers, dont realize is that this S30V steel actually has more carbon than 1095 or other high carbon steels. It is only considered a stainless steel because of its chromium content. S30V steel is amazing. It has a fine grain particle content, which leads to sharper blades than you can get with a rough grain steel like 1095. But yet it is a super hard steel, which means it holds an edge forever, while still maintaining great toughness because of its high carbon content. We just put it through a hardcore 40 day instructor course and it rocked. Non stop batoning. We did 7 days of knife only survival with it. There isnt much difference in this steel and CPM3V, and 3v is the toughest stuff I have ever used. By far. It is the new choice of a ton of custom knife makers because the stuff is so tough. My large chopper knife in 3v has an 18 degree bevel on it and I can chop seasoned hickory for a month before re-sharpening. Stuff is super hard. And most reports say S30V holds up phenomenally in toughness factor. The only real difference is the chromium content. All knives have carbon, and this one has a good amount of carbon like 1095. In fact S30V has a higher carbon content than 1095. S30V has 1.45% carbon and 1095 has .95% carbon. But s30v also has a high chromium content for rust resistance, which is a major issue in my area. The S30V is only right on the cusp to technically be considered a stainless steel. It is 1% of the min to be declared stainless, yet it has more carbon that 1095. Bet yall didnt know I was a knife dork, lol. I use to study steels obsessively. Anyway, this is my reasoning for liking this steel, in this package, for this price. Thanks. https://youtube/watch?v=oqYqKN1ctHA
