I wanted to comment on the situation with regard to the cat that I wanted to adopt. I did proceed with my records request to the shelter, and in the process came into contact with the director there, a gentleman with an impressive background and and EXACTLY the sort of skillset needed to turn a demoralized and poorly funded operation around. I am convinced that he is a man of great integrity and he was kind enough to take the time to exchange a series of emails with me and work bring this situation to a close that all parties, including me, were satisified. I have offered what assistance I can offer to Director Jimmy Terrell and the Barrow County Animal Shelter. This good man has taken a number of steps already that have greatly benefitted the lives of the animals there, and I call on my friends in the animal friend arena to help. Let me share two extracts from an email he sent me this morning: "One cat is on the E list today and it’s a bite case with a mean, aggressive cat. All others are safe." This was in response to asking that if possible, he show mercy to two little panthers on the urgent list. It is sad to see any cat put to sleep, of course, but the No Kill standard takes into account some animals cannot be rehabilitated. But what I find impressive is that the director was aware of the details to the level. "We have had a lot of issues with cats and trying to keep too many, but the new volunteers have improved our cleaning techniques and the county vet is giving us a number of cages tomorrow that will be a big help. The sad part is we get so few applicants looking for cats." This is where I ask animal friends and cross posters to help this shelter out. It has a director who is open to ideas. It has a newly formed group of voluteers who are fighting to save lives. Share their cats. Share them far and wide. Here is a shelter where we CAN make a difference.
