I wanted to pass this along and alert people that I dont believe the felony laws apply to all species, ie. livestock, especially in states with Ag Gag laws. Here in Arizona, our legislature just tried to pass a law that would have taken the power of investigating livestock abuse away from local law enforcement agencies and given it to the USDA. PLUS, the law also called for diminishing our felony laws for livestock abuse to a mere misdemeanor! Furthermore, and I elaborate here in case your own state ever tries to pass one of these slimy laws, the bill was introduced by a legislator who is a member of ALEC, (the American Legislative Exchange Council) . Its a conservative leaning organization that connects state lawmakers and corporations who work together to develop bills and introduce legislation that benefits the corporate interests. In this case it was the Arizona Cattlemens Association. And the disgusting part about it was how they tried to present it as a better, more effective way of discovering abuse by turning the responsibility of investigation over to the USDA and even try to placate the public by tacking on a provision that expanded the definition of abuse to include people found to be hoarders. That was truly an insult to our intelligence and I thank God we had a lot of caring, vocal individuals who were smart enough not to be hoodwinked by it!
