I wanted to post the text of this Polish Christmas carol, called There Was No Room For You (Nie Było Miejsca Dla Ciebie). This carol gives me goosebumps, it was written a year before World War Two broke out, imagine the bleak context of the anonymous author. The lyrics sneak up on you and stun you with a final, unsettling reprimand. I think of it often. Im posting my clumsy English translation only. There was no room for You in any Bethlehem inn. You were born, Jesus, in a stable, in poverty and cold. There was no room for You, though You came as a Savior to the earth, to rip Adams cursed race from the slavery of hell. There was no room for You, though You wanted to cuddle humanity to Your heart, and to save sinners with your wounded arms from the cross. There was no room for You, though You came to light the fire of love and by You precious passion to save the world from destruction. Though foxes have their dens And the birds their nests, There was no hospitality for You You had to search for a manger And why today, among people, Is there so much pain, tears, and sighs? Because there is no room for You In many a mans soul. If you google the title (Nie Bylo Miejsca Dla Ciebie) you can hear the melancholic melody to it. there are several versions on youtube.
