I wanted to post this article, written by William H. Gross, Managing Director of PIMCO, because I found it interesting. I also found it incredibly condescending and patronizing, which made it an infuriating read, but taken along with such things as the TED Talk given by Amazon co-founder Nick Hanauer (and his recent vocal support for a $15 an hour minimum wage) it seems to show that among some of the ultra rich, an awareness is growing of the precariousness of their position. Strike that - the awareness, I think, has always been there, at least, on their side; rather, the willingness to discuss their awareness of their situation more openly shows that their level of anxiety over the likely results of the last thirty-plus years of really destructive class warfare has reached a near fever pitch. The ultra-rich have long been aware that their position was secure only so long as the population remained docile - which could only be maintained so long as a modicum of success was attainable, and so long as the inequality stayed below the surface of peoples awareness. We all know, and have known for a long time that the rich live very different lives than the rest of us, but it was Occupy that brought the awareness of the differential between the 99% and the 1%, and especially between the .1% and the remaining population into such stark contrast, such highly visible, undeniable terms. It seems that no one can ignore class warfare anymore... and that has the people at the top more scared than ever before. Occupy pulled the curtain back on the wizard, and the wizards are now starting to throw everything they can back to distract us while they close the curtain again. ~Rusticus
