I wanted to really post something about why it is so rewarding to rescue a horse, while still remembering that it is time consuming and possibly financially draining. While I havent rescued a TVP horse, I have rescued a French horse from a slaughterhouse and a Cypriot racehorse. The cypriot racehorse was abandoned in 40 degree heat in the middle of nowhere in the garden of a remote villa luckily belonging to an English man. Lucky had signs of being dragged behind a truck for quite some way , before eventually being discarded. He was shod, indicating hed been ridden in his terrible condition. When we arrived with the rescue trailer , he stank of maggots and his front legs were being eaten alive by them. His eyes showed he had given up but we manhandled him into the trailer. You can see in the pictures (black horse) how he looked initially, and then the little glimmer of hope after he was shown care. He went on to make a full recovery :) My second horse was a meat horse much like the horses here in TVP today. He was skin and bone and a 3 yr old French trotter who had reared up and fallen in his sulkie (trotting cart) , so was discarded as useless. Quitus (keetoo) was 16 HH when he arrived at me , and eventually topped 17.3 HH !!! He went to a new owner after I started him under saddle and is now loved greatly :) . I think it feels very very rewarding, even Karmic (is that a word?) to help any soul you can in any way you can, no matter if you live on a grand estate , or you are doing the best you can with what you have. Sharon feels this soul enlightenment every day , and I wish her all the help the universe can give. xxx
