I wanted to say something about the below but wanted to wait until tonight to post so that she would not see my post before her interview. Yesterday, someone had posted on in this group that she had a second interview coming up and asked for advice, etc. Someone told her that When there is a second interview.... 95% of the time you got the job. This is probably an accurate statement for that particular person but I dont think this is appropriate or correct advice to tell future library staff persons. There is no way to know how an interview will go, who the committee will select, and what the qualifications of the other candidates are (and how many candidates there are interviewing for the same position). As someone who has had a good number of second interviews, I dont think it is fair to tell some one that they have a 95% chance of getting the job. I am sorry if I am upsetting anyone or stepping on toes, but it broke my heart to see such an inaccurate statement told to someone looking for a job. If I were in the interviewees position and someone told me that, I would probably be angry and hurt even more so when the rejection occurred. I hope the person who interviewed today got the job, I really do but I dont think a statement like that is doing anyone any favors. My apologies. I dont normally post on here but thought it was my duty as a professional librarian and a once upon a time job seeker to say something.
