I wanted to share a revelation God gave me at Mass yesterday evening. After I received the Eucharist, I knelt in my pew praying that God would free me from the sinful behaviors that have gripped for so many years. I began to visualize myself sitting on the ground looking at a large metal ball chained to my ankle. The weight was my sin and despite my pleading, it stayed. I stared at it as I often thought of the sinfulness i ling to be free of. And in that moment, Jesus spoke to me. He said, rise and see that your sin, though it is not so small, does not seem as large as when you sat focused so much on it and nothing else. Now, turn from it and follow me. You will notice that it is not so heavy as you imagined. You are not wrong to pray that you would be free, but when you focus so hard on your sin it turns you in on yourself. When you are focused on yourself you cannot love others. So turn from it and follow me. As you show my love to others your sin will still be with you, and you may stumble from time to time because of it. But as you follow me and grow in strength of virtue, the weight of your sin will seem lighter and lighter. You will stumble less and less. And one day, with grace and growth, you will be free. I praise your name, Lord Jesus as I wait for your coming.
