I wanted to share a wonderful experience we had at the recent Melbourne Gift Fair. Over the course of the 5 day event we became stand buddies with the lovely Ally from Minimink Australia. We had some great discussions about small business, family, worthy causes, volunteering and trying to make a positive impact on others lives. I talked with her about our attempts to dispel the myths surrounding refugees and asylum seekers and connecting with other people in the community who want to show compassion and empathy. On the last day of the fair, in the middle of a chaotic pack up, Ally comes over and asks me if there are many children in detention. I tell her yes, there are. She returns with armloads of new teddy bears, scarves, hats, slippers and blankets - practically her entire stand of stock and asks if I can donate these to the needy children and families currently in on-shore detention. I still get emotional now sharing this wonderful display of generosity. Thank you Ally and Minimink.
