I wanted to share my theological thought for the day on the atoning work of Christ. This is an introduction to a paper I am writing and I am finding myself passionate about it, I hope it blesses you as much as it is blessing me to write it: Spanning the course of the Old Testament recompense for sin came from the sacrifice of animals and burnt offerings to the Lord on behalf of the High Priest. Through this period in history the prophets foretold of a sacrifice that would count for sin once for all, that prophecy was given life through the duality of Christ’s sacrifice. God is wholly love and yet wholly just, for God to be consistent in deity both of those attributes must be wholly satisfied. The sacrifices that were given by man were imperfect in nature due to their origins, thus a sacrifice of perfection must be given so that final judgment can be satisfied; enter the atonement of Christ. Christ humbled himself to the level of man that through his journey to the Cross as the man-god he was, the wrath of God would be content. Through this act of double imputation, we have been made a case in the court room of God through mediation, and also have gone under the knife of sanctification that the surgeon may remove and reconstruct the things within. Through the work that Jesus has done, we have been given a sentence of freedom that is static in nature, simultaneously we have been continually inwardly set right through a dynamic catalyst known as the Holy Spirit.
