I wanted to share one of the little projects Ive been working on for the house. We added on a few years ago and opened up a pretty good sized hole in one of the walls that leads into our kitchen. Since we did that I have been searching for a door topper to trim out that opening. Niki Hawkins Hopwood and I were able to rescue two old toppers from the barn we tore down and I finally got around to scabbing together an 8 foot piece to finish this off. The pics below show what I started with and what we are ending up with. I was able to salvage the crown from the old nasty painted pieces and cut out the wide piece from some leftover baseboard we ended up with. All the wood in this piece came from our house originally...some of it just spent a few extra decades buried in the barn. When its done I think it will blend in just fine and the only ones that will notice some subtle differences are Niki and myself.
