I wanted to share this letter I got today. Never give up and never quit: This is a heartfelt letter from Jill Anderson Rackley co-founder of Shadows Fund. The heartache and frustration that rescuers feel when people dont take responsibility for their dogs. Shadows Fund is a non profit rescue in Lompoc for seniors and bully breeds. What an emotional week it has been here at Shadows Fund. We picked up a white faced, senior boxer from the shelter who is afraid and confused and wondering why she is here and not with her people - whoever they were. A dog that had been adopted had to come back to us. He was struggling with an issue he and his new family could not overcome together - so we had to remove this sweet soul from the only home and family hes ever really known. Tonight, he is heartbroken - and so are we. We will sit with him well into the late hours and hope to give him some comfort, but it will pale in comparison to the home and family that is familiar. Our inbox is flooded with emails - so may we cannot keep up on the responses - from people who are asking us to take their pit bulls. Its made me think of how loyal dogs are, how much try they have in them, how they would walk through fire for us if we asked it of them . . . and yet, when they mess up, when they are not perfect enough, when having them becomes a struggle or an inconvenience, the people they love and trust most simply give up on them. Today, a local shelter director emailed us to let us know that their kennels are full. Asked if we could please get a dog out. I know this shelter directors heart and he does not want to have to choose which of those dogs will die because space is full. There was no recent raid or bust where a bunch of abused or neglected dogs were confiscated and taken into our shelter. No, the dogs filling our local shelters were someones pet once. They were a puppy once. Tonight, they are sitting alone in a kennel wondering when their person is coming back for them. For most of them, the answer is never. How is it that there is such an astronomical disparity between the way dogs treat their people and the way people treat their dogs? Shadows Fund is about hope and never giving up and tomorrow we will set about doing what we can to pick up the pieces for as many broken dogs as we can. But tonight, we are broken hearted. So, this video is for all the dogs sitting in shelter kennels tonight. Our hearts are with you dear ones. https://youtube/watch?v=iC8tP9Oo52Y
