I wanted to share this story with you guys. Its truly a miracle. Six years ago I got my four year old Thoroughbred named Duke. He was boarded at a ranch and Dukes original owner had not paid his rent in a year due to going to jail, so the ranch owner decided to sell him. When I got him we were told he had papers but his breeder still had them. The ranch owner said that he would give me his breeders contact information and so I could get the papers. We payed $1000 for Duke. He was green broke - knew how to go and how to stop, basically. A few days later I contacted his breeder and asked for the papers. Well he was very annoyed because I guess the guy that went to jail never actually paid for Duke from his breeder. Now his breeder was mad because he didnt get his money. He said he would send the papers, but mentioned something about how he could go to court and get his horse back if he wanted. Well the papers never came, and we decided to drop it because of the court threat. Fast forward five years later. I had begun to get seriously competitive with Duke and wanted to know his show name. I had lost all contact with his breeder and the ranch owner years ago. I tried finding them in the phone book, online, and didnt find anything. Finally I decided to give it one last try. On a facebook website for horse people in my state, I asked if anyone knew the ranch owner and listed his name. I couldnt remember the breeders name. Lo and behold someone did! They gave me his number. I called him up and he remembered me. He didnt have the breeders number, but he had his address. I decided to write the breeder a letter. I knew it was a long shot because he was so irritated before, but I figured it couldnt hurt. I poured my heart and soul into that letter. I told him how much this horse had meant in my life and how he had saved me in ways no one else could. I asked if I could know his show name so I could use it at the shows. Then I added some pictures and mailed it. Less then a week later, I got a letter in the mail from him. I was shaking when I opened it and started crying. In the envelope were Dukes papers. They were even signed over in my name and included a picture of his father. A note was included asking me to call. I called his breeder and he said he was sorry and that he thought he had sent them years ago. He told me all about Dukes background and was happy that I owned him. When I looked at Dukes papers, I found out that he is related to War Admiral and Seattle Slew along with other awesome lines. His name is Yoyo Gazer. I believe this was nothing short of a miracle, and I encourage all of you who are wondering about your horse to dig dig dig for information! You never know what may happen. Just that one post on facebook led to this amazing experience. :)
