I wanted to talk about the Pakistani Budget and its currency today but my friends seem more interested in my fashion posts as some of them are asking for my own favorites. Pakistan was created in 1947 and that time the value of Pakistani rupee was exactly equal to one US Dollar. Today it takes more than a hundred rupees to buy one dollar and it is about to get worse. Perhaps it is my age or may be I am getting too old but I am nostalgic about the days gone by. In my opinion, the most seductive woman ever to wear a Pakistani fashion saree was Ava Gardner. There was a time when Lahore was a favorite destination for Hollywood movie producers. Stewart Granger and Ava Gardner (see the attached photos) shot their movie, Bhowani Junction at the Lahore Railway Station. By the time they shot this movie in 1955, Pakistani rupee had dropped to three rupees to a dollar. Alas, worse was yet to come but you already know the rest of the story. Dr. M. Mahmud Awan 6/5/14
